What are some good essay themes in the Harry Potter series?
Q. Im writing a theme paper for a freshmen college english paper and I'd like to do it on Harry Potter. I need to find out some themes from the series that I can write on. Preferable abstract. This paper needs to be 20+ pages so the more themes the better!

A. How about you write on the role of adults in the series. Are they really essential to the plot or do they serve merely as foils?

Protected .pdf file - Is there any way of 'un-protecting' it?
Q. I have the proceedings from a conference (abstracts on papers etc), which I am currently researching. The problem is I only need a handful of them, which I want to transfer to MS Word for my own records, but the file is protected. I can print it, but I cannot copy the text within it. I have tried printing to another .pdf file using PrimoPDF, but it comes out blank. I have 3 other conferences in .pdf format which aren't protected and hence don't have a problem, it is only this one. I hope that's all clear, if not I will add any additional required information. The first answer that works will get a well deserved 10 points. Thank you for your suggestions. @ brostern2006: Unless I am searching for the wrong term, there are no unlock… [cont.]

Things dealing with the government?
Q. Yeah, basically, i have to do a abstract paper about anything dealing with the government. It's not that hard, but i can't seem to think of anything i haven't done already. So was wondering if anybody could give me an idea. Some of the things I've talked about was President Obama (surprised?). On his health care reforms, Haiti rescue efforts, the bank thing, and basically changes he's done in his time in office. I've also talked about the first lady Michelle Obama on the obesity thing. So anybody have a good idea. First, the information should be easy to find on the internet I'm not interested in looking for a book or anything. EPA Standards - Water Reused for Crop Irrigation?
Q. For a project, a group at my school is going to use biodesalination and forward osmosis to clean water. We are looking for uses for it once it is cleaner, and one of the potential uses is crop irrigation. Does anyone know (or know where I can get my hands on) USEPA standards for certain elements in the water? I need TDS limits of stuff like chromium, sodium, organics, potassium, among many others. I have read through a few abstracts and papers, but I can't pin down any definitive numbers. Any help or pointing in the right direction would be very helpful, thanks!

What is the difference between a proposal and an abstract in a research paper?
Q. I am writing a paper on how "The Old Guitarist" painting relates to certain psychological disorders. My professor said we have to have an abstract AND a proposal. She gave us an outline for what should be in the proposal, but not for the abstract. What should be in an abstract/what is the difference between an abstract and a proposal?
Asked by Jamie N - Wed May 6 17:08:23 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A research proposal usually is a description of what you plan to study and include in your final research paper. It does not contain your results and final conclusions. An abstract is a short paragraph at the beginning of your final research paper that consists of the highlights of your paper. Think of it as a short summary of your main points and conclusions. You should minimally answer the following questions: 1. What did you do? (analyze the old guitarist...) 2. What are your main results from the analysis? 3. What are your main conclusions? In your abstract aim for a word count no more than 350 to 500 words.

How do you cite from an abstract of a research paper?
Q. Im trying to write a report nearly all my evidece are not avaiable and i only have the abstract to work with. How do i cite that or quote it?
Asked by Gooner11 - Thu Feb 4 13:46:59 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In the same way you'd quote from the main body of a paper. If you know what the page numbers are for the whole article, then it would be the first page number. You don't need to say specifically that it is a quote from the abstract. eg in Harvard system: Author, X.T. (2010) 'Name of Article', Journal Name, Vol (Issue) Page numbers.

What an abstract -of a research paper- should include?
Q. do i have to mention the case studies and its results? please explain.. and should the paper be finished when writing the abstract? i mean results may differ if the abstract was done before the research takes place..
Asked by iceberg - Fri Sep 22 14:05:38 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The abstract is written after the paper is finished. It should be brief and include: One sentence summarizing the hypothesis, One or two sentences describing the method, One sentence describing the conclusion. The abstract is a simple summary to help the reader determine if reading the entire study would be of benefit.

A. Machine translation is still at a pretty basic state. If you want to have fun some time, try Babelfish or other translation site and translate something from one language to another and then back. Or for real giggles, translate to a third language before returning to the first. Translation is a very, very difficult problem. It is also a very large topic. You are going to have to select some more specific piece of it to report on. Speech recognition has come along better than translation. One interesting aspect of speech recognition that you might consider for your report is dynamic time warping, a method used to stretch or shrink utterances to match patterns for recognition. Two people could say the same sentence - or even the same word… [cont.]

Lost Out-of-State Driver's License?
Q. I have lost my driver's license, and will now be applying for one in a new state (for which I used to have one). Do I need to receive a replacement license from my old state to turn into my new state's DMV office? Or would it be simpler to just apply directly to my new state? I believe the website said the old state will provide a letter or driver's abstract that may be used to get a new one. Is it worth waiting for this or should I just apply in my new state without it? I'm assuming it may be faster for them to process if they did have this paper/abstract.
